Hello Residents of MacEwan-Sandstone!

Jan-Feb 2012
Hello Residents of MacEwan-Sandstone!

We, in the Calgary-Mackay Office, hope that the first few weeks of 2012 have been productive for you and that you have a great path set out before you for the upcoming year. It should be a busy one, both in Calgary and throughout Alberta.

I hope all Calgarians, particularly those in Calgary-Mackay, participate in the Calgary as Canada’s Cultural Capital 2012 festivities over the coming months. There is surely something for every cultural appetite during these 12 months of celebration and cultural diversity. I hope to attend at least some of these events and to see you out there as well.

This year also marks the centennial Calgary Stampede, which pleases me a great deal. We are also in the preliminary stages of planning the annual Stampede Breakfast for the constituency and hope you will keep your eyes open to this column for information. It will be bigger and better than ever.

With the Legislature returning for its Winter Session on February 7th, there is much to do. Back from a restful holiday season, I am prepared to examine new pieces of legislation and debate new motions that will better Calgary-Mackay and all Albertans. I hope you will feel free to submit any questions or ideas to my office so that I might consider them when given time to speak in the Legislature.

The Minister of Human Services, Dave Hancock, recently announced that I will serve as Chair of the Youth Secretariat. The Youth Secretariat is focused on:
• ensuring the youth voice is reflected in the work of the Alberta government;
• increasing the number of opportunities youth have to contribute to social policy;
• supporting Alberta's children and youth to reach their potential;
• listening, understanding and responding to young people's needs; and
• promoting promising practices in youth engagement.

Please feel free to come to me with any issues or concerns that you may have. This includes youth who may want to have their voices heard, even if they are not yet eligible to vote. In my capacity as Chair, I will advocate to ensure that all Albertans, regardless of age, have a voice in Edmonton.

The Calgary-Mackay constituency office is committed to supporting these and other initiatives that improve the quality of life for people in our community. For more information, please subscribe to my e-newsletter by visiting -Click here to visit website-
